I think this is an impossible question to answer, but proposing it implicitly condones child labor as a component of the "return to greatness" that so many on the right desire.

Elegance is matter of perspective. Epicycles are a very elegant way to explain planetary orbits from a geocentric view point, but they are very wrong.

I’m impressed. One of the big hurdles of extendable types is figuring out which subtype a parameter is. Overloaded methods are a blunt tool that involves lots of indirection. Generics force you to structure classes in a specific way. Patter

A lot of faceless funds. Utility-scale developments are usually built as a partnership between local utilities, a developer who acquires/leases land and builds the the site, and investors who buy the site and form a pricing agreement w

The issue is the possible in-person judgement associated with the tip. Traditionally a waiter will not look at your signed bill at your table. They didn't stand over you with a mobile POS system waiting for the tip. Generally those who

TypedArrays are also their own thing. But unless you are reading binary files/WASM, most JS devs don't use them. https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/JavaScript/Guid...

I don’t agree with using Either or Result types in JavaScript, but I can see some arguments. TS function types don’t include expected exceptions. Unlike Java which has Exceptions in its method signatures (unless it’s a Runtime), you cannot

Spreading allocates a new array. Most things you can do with spread you can do with normal functions that either just directly access an entry or mutate an array directly. [first, …rest] is nice, but will always be slower than direct access

Maybe people spend about a year of their lives commuting. If you commute an hour a day, every weekday, for 40 years, that’s 10400 hours, compared to the 8760 hours in a year.

Isn’t this pretty well known? The current advice seems to be use ChatGPT to extract data from fuzzy lists and transform it into structured data. Then use traditional methods on that data.

Reading any financial posts from fellow millennials is really dark. The amount of hopelessness is crazy high. It makes me really thankful to be in tech, but it makes me worry about where my generation is headed.

Even without classes there are a ton of footguns involving ‘this’ and method scope. Fat arrow notation papered over a bunch of issues. But I have lost more than a few hours confused as to why changing between map and a loop completely broke

Water absorbs photons at most frequencies outside the visible spectrum. What we deems as visible light is actually where water is most transparent. Since eyes evolved underwater, it makes sense they would use this section of the spectrum.

AI will replace many tools. If your job is only to use and be a specialist with a particular tool, then be scared. Most jobs are much more than the tools to we use on the job. AI is a new tool, learn how to use it like any other.

I tell people this all the time. My job really isn’t coding. My job is translating fuzzy business requirements into structured schemas and procedures. Coding is just a tool I use to accomplish this.
