...compete with PHP, seriously? Many of the points above apply to any language. Ruby might have maintainability issue but PHP is far far from perfect.

My two cents: trust only apps that allows to export 100% of your data, or even better saves your data in an open format accessible through API. At the end of the day it is not about Google or Microsoft or Evernote, but about not losing data

If only Microsoft understood it should release a laptop like this... just 256/512SSD + 8Gb RAM, I would be happy to pay 2K for it. No borders, a lot of vertical space, why is it that hard to copy a MBP and put Windows on it ?

R&D is how we get new ideas from techies, that's good! However Apple should spend 10 times that, MS for instance spent 9billions in R&D just in 2012. You can like the company or not, but reasearch is one way to progress :)

I don't know who you would mean with "they", but BBC doesn't use Symfony nor Silex. Feel free to contact BBC Future Media engineers, many of them are on linkedin. That history about Silex is ONE developer testing it on a pet project, which

BBC PHP framework is Zend Framework, it's sad to see such a lie as one of the main selling points. If Symfony is used at all in BBC is perhaps only to experiment the alternatives.

I think it would be incorrect to use css to create an interactive object, a page should be 100% usable without css. And probably font rendering is a lot faster than css rendering, though I couldn't find a similar benchmark
