Indeed, it's telling that the first screenshot they are using to illustrate the problem is a iMessage screenshot, with a high contrast background image, only one message and images in a similar color theme as the background image. If y

I've read so much criticism and listened to so many Apple podcast that I expected the worst. Then updated on day one and...it's fine? I know that people just hate any change but this was massively blown out of proportion.

As I said in my comment above, sometimes it’s necessary as websites break the auto fill, or mobile apps don’t offer the password manager sheet.

They prevent you from being one of these, and copy pasting the password from password manager into the wrong input field. Something that still happens often with many websites not properly auto-filling from password managers. > They just

Many links shared on HN are content marketing for various companies. In this case it's a good start for a discussion and sharing RSS tool that are not listed on that list.

I use https://miniflux.app and use that to sync NetNewsWire across my devices and across RSS readers. I'm using Reeder on my iPad, Miniflux on the web and sometimes NetNewsWire on my Mac.

I wonder if that's related to UniFi pushing into that market for consumers ( https://www.ui.com/integrations/network-storage ) recently. It's still not there yet as there's no way to run containers etc. on

There’s maybe some way to make it work, but by default it’s not so easy. I once had an internet outage and had to play the files with VLC as I wasn’t able to log into Plex on my NAS.

"Deploying" a new feature into "staging" also doesn't have to do anything with a battle. Naming is hard and most project names just pick a fun name. Your point about "serverless" I can understand, but &quo

For me Apple services only make sense of you go all-in, only the you’ll get the benefits. In that case why not use an open solution like home assistant?

The problem is that you would be one of the 1% doing that, the rest of the companies would just not bother with that and it will end like many open source problems that constantly have to come up with ways to get funding.

Fastmail is mentioned on every email provider suggestion thread on HN (Because they are great, happy user!), but they are not a transactional email provider which is what this product is about.

There's a spectrum between "useless" and "good enough", for most people it acts more of an awareness tool and for that it does the job well.

Rails was built in a company to build commercial products so I’d say it had commercial interests from day one. > 37signals built Rails for Basecamp and has since used it to create all their web products. From: https://rubyonra

Look at the core maintainers of Rails for example. Many are paid by Shopify and Basecamp, so it’s much more commercial than your regular open source project. Which isn’t a bad thing that people get to contribute on company time.
