I'm sure many investors are looking at their portfolio right now and re-evaluating their holdings of USDT. But Tether honored redemptions for large holders. This does not look like the beginning of a bank run or a Tether collapse to m

It has been tied up in courts for years. The most recent estimates put the "early" payout at sometime this year. See https://bitcoinbuilder.com/ .

It was the centralized nature of this bridge (5 private keys required) that allowed this hack to happen in the first place.

Codependency became broadly known in the context of relationships involving alcohol and substance abuse. But it's definition is much broader than that. And, I would argue, much more common.

Perfectionism can be a symptom of codependence. Codependence is a loaded word, but understand that many, many people struggle with codependence to some degree. Us codependent personalities gain our sense of well-being based on what others

Person A offers BTC for sale for Rubles. Person B offers Rubles in order by buy BTC. Binance is an exchange which matches these two offers. In this scenario, Person A is taking the risk of the Ruble devaluing.

Binance is not taking this risk. The counterparty who is selling BTC for Rubles is taking the monetary risk of the Rubles devaluing. My guess is that the buyers of Rubles are turning around and selling some or all of them on a foreign curr

Many cryptocurrency enthusiasts agree that the technology will not disrupt nation states. But that does not mean they won't move the needle in the balance of power. If cryptocurrency can provide citizens with more financial empowermen

>> Bitcoin also has some utility as a transaction medium. > It really doesn't. It is pretty difficult to support an argument that Bitcoin has zero value as a transaction medium.

It is important to note that this was not a smart contract exploit. The point of failure here was the website UI. Users were sent to a malicious website due to a stolen Cloudflare API key. What can DAOs do to prevent the single point of f

So true. Every technology revolution seems like a toy at first. Consider the personal computer, the spreadsheet, the internet, the smart phone. Only time will tell if cryptocurrencies will join this list.

I agree that would be a useless smart contract. If that is your intention, then don't use a smart contract. If, however, there are a limited number of known possible outcomes, then smart contracts offer advantages over court-based set

The smart contracts you are seeing now are relatively simple programs and are woefully insufficient for nation-state level use. Imagine a future with multiple levels of smart contracts that allow for court intervention and arbitration. It

It is not guaranteed. You should not treat is as FDIC insured funds. But let's do a little game theory. Say the market starts losing faith in USDC and people start selling 1 USDC for, say, 0.98 USD. Coinbase can either let this happen

It is not censorship proof but it is resistant to censorship. A state actor would need to block all IPFS hosts as soon as they begin to serve a specific CID. This is a game of whack-a-mole that would be difficult to maintain.
