Nobody with any sense calls that "faking" objects, and that doesn't have anything to do with C anyway. He's probably talking about the use of C structs and functions that operate on them to create an object system.

Pure Python code can do a lot. Large parts of the stdlib are extension modules, and can release the GIL (e.g. one of the tests on the bug tracker used time.sleep()). In practice, if your code is IO-bound, it's doing work in an extension mod

No. It's a terrible webpage design. Am I the only one who still values things like http://www.useit.com/alertbox/scrolling-attention.html ?

I may not be old, but I still find your blatant ageism disturbing (I would say only slightly disturbing, except that you've taken this offensive viewpoint to something of an extreme-- so it's not slight at all). "Old people" can be just as

How are Python's scoping rules less clear? They are identical to Javascript's (and Scheme's), except that instead of defaulting to global scope, they default to local scope (which can be overridden with `global foo`). Also, it has one extra

Looks great, except for the corner case of nth = 1. I was too lazy to figure out the slicing solution myself. :)

I find it hard to believe that the largest cause (or even a significant cause) in the difference of flexibility of two languages is whether or not you can declare variables to belong to a given scope, and to which scope they default to.

Egh, some of those other languages are more Scheme-like than others. In particular, Javascript is certainly more scheme-like than Java, which lacks even first-class functions, for example. And, well, Python is basically just Lisp with diffe

Well, Java would still come out on top, in all likelihood. I don't think even the idiomatic solutions in Python/Ruby/etc. would be faster unless they have some really nice JIT compilers I'm not aware of, or they changed the algorithm. The

Best solution is just to put the javascript in another file. Barring that, escape your javascript. Replace < with <, etc. I am not sure CDATA exists in HTML (I seem to remember it being something for XML and DTDs).

They are WSGI servers. Which one you choose probably only depends on the speed it can interface WSGI to itself to the client, how reliable it is, and so on. The framework you choose is a different layer, on top of WSGI.

Sorry for not getting back to you, not used to HN yet. It's not that the color scheme is hard to see-- I can tell apart faded and bright green fine enough for the purposes of discriminating that they are different. What I can't tell is whet

The difference between rendering strings and numbers as HTML is not very clear, and could probably be improved (by using quotes around strings). A faded green 2 is a string ("2"). A bright green 2 is a number. Also, "Strict JSON" is not ver
