To add to this -- whenever one does analysis based on very broad correlations, and where there is much potential for confounding variables that can never be perfectly controlled for, it is very easy to cut the data in a way that results in

I spend most of my time in small, private, invite-only forums these days. As I get older, the problem with most forums is not so much lack of civility, but rather tediousness. Eventually, I have heard all the arguments, and if new comers to

Curious question -- when you or someone else does the peer review, is it standard practice to actually double-check the math behind the paper, or audit any of the data?

The principal agent problem works in the opposite direction from how you describe. Companies are incentivized to offer buybacks when they, with their inside information, believe the stock price is undervalued. This is how buybacks are rat

Problem with moving startups is that they are more fragile, and need every edge to beat out their peers. So if two startups are competing, and startup A is in the middle of nowhere, and startup B is connected to a pool of talent, advice, po

But if you're a rich person and not an idiot, you should be glad to see public companies offer buybacks. No, because there is a principle-agent problem. As a non-professional, long-term investor, I want the interests of the executive

You could try to design the tax code to try to distinguish people who were getting rich from zero-sum games, versus those who were getting rich from taking risks and creating wealth. In practice, there is a lot of subjectivity in doing so,
