I would recommend anyone in IT to read their blog (and play the game a little for the context) to understand how to wisely deal with complex systems and learn good programming practices. https://www.factorio.com/blog/

For some light speed hacking porn I'd recommend reading Cixin Liu's In Remembrance of Earth trilogy. It has a few deus ex machina moments but overall it's just pure fun.

I don't understand why is it considered extreme cost. IIRC it's around $1/us citizen/year. For example the budget for keeping us safe from ourselves is much higher.

Why would the Chinese Room be irrelevant? It's directly connected to the hard problem of consciousness, which is more relevant than ever, if anything. fMRI can analyze a brain, not an experience, proving that one equals another brings

I liked her videos a lot, until this one: https://youtu.be/zpU_e3jh_FY She should stick to physics, not philosophy. Proving free will with physics is ignorant and arrogant. The hard problem of consciousness is much deeper t

We are having an impostor syndrome as humanity, which is a good thing. There was an obvious security hole sitting for years in the most common library in the most common programming language, and no one noticed... We fly to space and begin

It's not a problem of the "amount" of analysis capabilities. The experience is orthogonal to rational. It's the same Chinese Room - no matter how many analytical brains you would throw on understanding what "red&quo

I would argue that in practice, the only difference between implementations was an inconvenience to me was on Mac - I have to use gsed instead of sed, etc. Everywhere else, it's pretty much consistent from the one-liner user POV. On th

Why though? We use hibob, and anyone can find anyone's full name and birthday via UI anyway. Are there any compliance issues with this?

Most likely because it contradicts most people's experience, some CSVs can't be parsed with cli tools, but most of them can be, and it's much easier than writing code that does the same. So what the parent commenter says is t

Yes, as I answered in another thread - this post is much more educational than practical. It's intended to teach how to use pipes and simple commands together. Explaining why piping `ls` is bad and what is the difference between `ls` a

Yes! Agree. This post is more educational than practical (albeit the title). You need to start somewhere and know the basics to understand these details and caveats to feel what quality code means in this context. I chose to use the long, r

The only possible scenario I could come up with is someone crashing internet on purpose, e.g. some crazy uncatchable trojan that starts DDOSing everything. I doubt such scenario is feasible though...
