This is true in less and less areas, even rural. For example Tennessee adopted state-wide building codes, and counties/cities have to explicitly opt out, otherwise they too are constrained by the codes.

I suffered from similar unexplained bluetooth mouse outages until I discovered the problem: USB-3 can interfere with bluetooth. My usb hub causes such vexing interference.

I believe the AMA is responsible for accreditation of medical schools. Without accreditation, they can't make doctors, thus the AMA controls the supply of doctors.
