If it's anywhere the same as in Argentina, it's horrible. Single pane glass, walls made out of a single file of large, hollow bricks, maybe some insulation on the roof but not that much.

Interesting stuff. I'm always struggling to find dead code in Xcode projects as there's very little refactoring tooling compared to bigger IDE's like the classic Visual Studio on Windows or JetBrains products. I miss seeing d

I heard a story a few years ago they actually tried to reverse engineer the machine and only ended up with multi-million dollar machine that refused to work again.

There's quite a bit of variety between different DX synthesizers in terms of sound, even when they seem to be the same on paper like the DX11 and the TX81z. I bought a bunch of them when they were still cheap but it's hard to get

The odd thing is that I really tried to help people for a while on Stack Overflow but if you answer somebody's question you rarely get an accepted answer or even any reply at all. "Sorry buddy, that didn't work" or anyth

The only people with Front End Stack complexity issues are web developers, for native mobile development it's pretty great nowadays.

I like a bit of Python or Elixir from time to time but truth to be said there's never a moment I am happy I didn't have types to worry about.

When I SAVE a program in C64 BASIC and LOAD it again the syntax doesn't change no matter what I do, add spaces or not, use shorthand or not, colons, etcetera. So I get the feeling that my whole program gets saved as a string and then p

Are they stored as 16 bit words before or after parsing the BASIC code?

Yes it does but the amount of bytes the author speaks about regards the amount of characters used for storing the program. That's why he uses the : and removes the spaces.

In a C64 BASIC program keywords like SAVE and PRINT can be abbreviated: https://www.c64-wiki.com/wiki/BASIC_keyword_abbreviation That would shave off some more precious bytes!

I heard the same thing from a colleague from Brazil, I can imagine that after containing inflation there are many more problems left to solve that are probably not taken care of either in Brazil.

Argentina is brimming with talent and the economic and social realities mean you need an entrepreneur mindset even to just get through with your daily life. At the same time the level of the education system is quite high and it's free

People do have an interest in Bitcoin as it's the only way to do transfers abroad that really works. But typically they just hoard dollars. Bitcoin also fluctuated way more than dollars in the last few years, people that buy dollars ar

Good to see that myth busted. Having spent enough time in the country people buy dollars to save money, there is no other way except investing in real estate and other large investments that are typically only available to people that are a

This is why I often skip the article and go straight to the comments on HN! "Emergency recovery can be handled by a supervisor process" - this sounds a lot like Elixir to me, but I can't find any example in Swift.

I love enums in Swift because they can have associated data. It's great to see this in other languages as well. They're so great to support the different states your application can be in, they can replace a lot of nullable values

God I wish I could run MacOS 8.1, Windows 95 OSR 2.1 or Windows 2000 SP4 on modern hardware. Especially with some tweaking that removes artificial animation delays that stuff should be flying so ungodly fast.
