I'll go one better than that. If Siegler thinks I should read him for his opinions, then I don't have to read him anymore. I know his opinion on the iPad 3 already. I know his opinion on the iPhone 5 already. I suppose the answer is obvious

Yeah, but it's always couched in some sort of snark. Yesterday, he posted something offhand about wondering how many people were going to line up for the Nexus release, clearly worded in a way intended to mean "we all know it will be none".

The problem with Google is that they don't seem interested in doing the hard work to go from 90% of the way there to a full product. It's like that with nearly everything they do. Often, it shows up as a US-only policy (flight search curren

Also not a downvoter, but it's hyperbole because he didn't qualify it by saying that he has very particular needs. It would be like saying, "the Ford Excursion is an unusable piece of junk due to the lack of interior space...I can't even

Mostly, my complaints about Android revolve around issues outside the devices and OS. The market is dreadful, but day-to-day life with the phone is nicer (better notifications, widgets, additional useful functionality, etc.) iOS5 should clo

It also works , which is another point of similarity with Apple's store. Google's market is laughably bad in my experience. Admittedly, I think my experience is worse than most for whatever reason.

Yeah, Google's official market is the glitchiest thing I've seen in a while. I will note that I've had no problems with the concurrent downloads/installs failing since I bought a Galaxy S II (my previous Nexus One had that problem constantl

The Mitchell book is definitely showing its age these days. It's not terrible, but anyone thinking of buying it should be aware that it is a broad but shallow tour of machine learning as it stood 15 years ago, and machine learning as a fiel

It is quite good, and the hardcover version is beautiful as well -- good enough to be a coffee table book. But yeah, $250 is pretty steep.

I wrote a LaTeX macro package for my university's PhD thesis format, and like a lot of such packages, the bulk of the work was in TeX rather than LaTeX. It's...well, I'm struggling to find the appropriate word that means "awful, but sort of

Because you have more than one person you're working with at a time. You get X% of their offer. If they get a higher offer, you get (X+delta)%. If that delta% of the offer that makes up your difference is lower than the value of your time s

True, but race and nationality are pretty relevant as to whether you have a mom who has convenient access to software magazines and computers to type the code into.

How many apps do you need? Don't get me wrong, I think the iPad is very, very good. I use mine every day. But I just took it out and counted the apps I actually use really ever, and apparently 64,987 of those 65,000 apps could be deleted to

Maybe I'm the weird one, but in nearly a year of using my iPad every day, I've simply found that apps don't matter nearly as much (for me) as they do on a phone. There are a handful of really popular apps like Kindle and Twitter, but those
