Just today I had an incident review meeting resulting from a prod incident where the root cause was an LLM refactor stripping ! from the front of a boolean statement "for no reason". Not to mention how often I've seen garbled

Insane. An LLM is just as likely to hallucinate a missing/extra underscore and ping the wrong person. A machine cannot be held accountable.

At the same time they want to leverage all the "humanity" they can to get you to work more for less. We're a family here, after all. You wouldn't leave your colleagues hanging, would you?

Not everyone is housed and well fed. Homelessness in the US is at a 20 year high. Same for Australia.

The fact that there are no consequences for the bad behaviour is why the companies do not fear engaging in bad behaviour. Like they give two hoots about people believing their apology outside of mitigating further consequences.

Pretty sure that can be done with a paper contract too, but sure.

I can only imagine the meetings at microsoft HQ where they all sat around a table and crossed their fingers and hoped that vendors would act in the spirit of their design.

Buying nice hardware is orthogonal to using debian as your router's OS.

A 15 year old 1ghz quad core (apu2) can route gigabit just fine, passively cooled. An N150 can do 2.5gbit, probably 10gbit but i haven’t personally tried. Using Openwrt is fine but doesn’t quite match the educational experience of starting

Yeah, I will concede the hardware is nice and they offer things nobody else really does. Which makes it even more of a shame that I can’t install my own OS properly on it. Fwiw I like protectli’s boxes. Not quite as featureful nor as cheap

Just use linux! Why use someone else's non FOSS, locked down linux, when you could truly own your router? It's a great educational experience I would recommend to anyone interested in networking. Grab debian, grab a system with 2

The real workaround is to delete system32. I had this shit with my alienware monitor. Doesn’t happen on Linux.

Those are reasonable. A business must take account of its stock - a useful thing is happening. A TV station shuts down in the evening as paying for electricity to broadcast and humans to schedule programming that goes unwatched is unproduct

To what end? Pleasing a few nerds? Nerds that are just as likely to have ripped out the OTA modem or not be using a car like that.

How the hell else do you arrange a contract? Lawyers at 10 paces? What's so corrupt about directly communicating with someone gain agreement? This is confusing.

God forbid society grows around you. How dare all those productive aspiring people build things near you. Did they not know you had exclusive right of refusal on nearby development?

Like everything else community construction responds to incentives. So we need to structurally incentivise short distance commute communities. Congestion pricing seems like a reasonable first step.

These ideas seem to be at odds with one another. I'm reasonably sure you can't harvest organs from a resuscitated person in a vegetative state, coma, severely brain damaged, whatever.

Bogus nonsense. Sign your internal certs with an internal CA, make your clients trust the CA. Use it properly.

Good heavens an entire other afternoon after a decadal standards update. You’ll have to spend an afternoon upgrading off XP at some point too.
