It's easy to understand why — once Quora understood it was attracting the kind of online socialites who like to boost their egos and flaunt their intellect (which is by no means 100% of the community, just a loud majority), they accustomed

It was a fad for the Silicon elite but it COULD have been so much more. There were actual scientists, historians, etc. getting involved and those people could have made it awesome. The reason Quora faltered was because of startup/investor

This is a great idea. As a step two, I would group them into categories (JavaScript, self-improvement, etc.) and then figure out time needed to become proficient in each one. Vim, for example, takes about 5 days to really get the hang of it

What do you guys think of Zed Shaw's teaching style? As I'm not a beginner programmer, I can't really evaluate correctly — to me it seems like a odd approach to programming pedagogy, but perhaps it works. Any non-programmers want to shed li

Although I'm not much of an entrepreneur (yep, here more for the hacking than the startup'ing), I spend a lot of my time working on "ideas" — I am a musician, a programmer, a tinkerer, a writer, a designer, etc., and find myself daily in ne

Agreed, wholeheartedly. And the media isn't helping, enforcing the idea that there are two parties in America: Republicans and Democrats. Countries are not divided like that anymore, and perhaps never have been. Government will always be ab

When I am 40, if I'm in no good spot to be running a business, my plan is simple: Immigrate to Nicaragua, grow vegetables and herbs, and start a bakery. Live on American tourists' dollars and spend the rest of my life surrounded by happy pe
