That's wildly out of kilter - this data shows humans at only 2.3% of animal biomass, with arthropods holding the largest segment at 39%. EDIT: my sibling comment mentions CO2 emissions - I agree that your stats look like they're r

That doesn’t mean that their ideas weren’t generated by a deterministic machine inside their skulls. GGP doesn’t explain why he thinks these individuals had free will and the rest of us don’t. Seems to me even in “random” yet deterministic

Can they? Sure. Will they? Doubtful. The problem is slowness due to bureaucracy. When you can't even experiment on 'company' equipment without formulating a plan and having it approved by a few levels of management, it

For reference: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_languages_by_number_of... In the event it's not obvious, English is 3rd in terms of native speakers, but you'll need to calculate all the others to compare

Can you screenshot that and link to the screenshot? I don't see it marked as an ad.

I’ll agree that that’s a crazy amount of data. I take issue with “...render just one frame.” Surely that data can be reused for multiple other frames.

I think the original intent was to take notes quickly and later transcribe them to be read as normal text. I've wanted to learn shorthand for writing into my tablet and have it transcribe automatically, but I haven't put in the re

I don't find it "easy" to read that, but it's not impossible. And depending on personal levels of experience, eliminating vowels might take more effort than just writing full words.

You can, but I suspect they'll stick with the former: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/mymta/id1297605670?mt=8 Seems to me they've branded it this way intentionally.

I’m of the opinion it’s two options (“real” vs “not real”) regardless of how the “not real” option is implemented: simulation, dream states, shared illusion, whatever. The rest of your comment makes fine arguments.

I can't help but think the two options (we're in a simulation vs. we're not in a simulation) are equally likely without any information from outside our own universe. That said, it doesn't matter either way - we're

I think part of the problem is the ordering of the canine calorie queue: should it not be approximately lifo rather than fifo? If you are indeed correct, I’m curious to know how the canine has direct access to the caloric morsels at the bot

“Sorry, we can't seem to find what the problem is.” I know what the problem is: it’s a hobby project and 1) employer work takes priority and 2) I’m so stinking tired at the end of a day and 3) adult chores take priority on the weekend.

Apple has asked me several times in the past for online purchases. I enter a ZIP code, they do some lookup and ask me to choose the county I live in from a list of three. I choose, and based on that they calculate tax.
