Playing around with a Raspberry Pi Pico. After more than a decade of building digital applications, being able to write a program and seeing the output change something in the physical world was pretty cool. I remember feeling that same spa

I’d love to teach math/science to kids. I think I would be very good at it and enjoy it. But the pay really sucks. At home id setup a shop with a 3d printer, laser cutter, cnc machine, power tools, etc. And I’d spend my free time just

I used chatgpt4 recently for two projects. One was a success, the other a complete failure. In the first project I asked it to help me build a one page ui with html and css, it did great! I know a lot about html and css, so I was able to as

The New York comic example is pretty impressive. I tried creating a short comic story with both Dalle-2 and SD. After a lot of hacking I finally gave up an decided the technology was nowhere near ready. I may try again with this. I wonder h

Yes, it is biological sampling! We have some biologists and ecologist in the team that took care of the methodology. And indeed we have taken a simple approach with some string/ropes that works pretty well as you said. But we have a lo

I was born and grew up in Cuba. I immigrated to the US, but I still visit family and friends when I can. I communicate with them regularly. As someone who has first-hand experience let me tell you that Cubans do NOT have all the food and me

Personally, I find linear code more readable when I have context. The pizza example reads better linearly because is easy to figure out the context. But when I have no context (I enter a new code base) linear code is harder for me to reason

I barely use it now. Every now and then, out of habit maybe, I visit the website on my phone, scroll for 20 to 30 seconds and then my brain is like - “oh no, I don’t enjoy this anymore.” And I close it. I used it for years. I find it funny

I’ve found htmx to be the ultimate Django customising machine. Just make an htmx view and stick it anywhere in your admin. You can do this either by overriding a specific model admin’s template for more complex logic (for example the change

One approach you can try is using the localStoeage API to temporarily store the form data of the user. I have done something similar in the past. You can use a light library like Alpine JS to make this work nicely. When the form renders, ch

If this is an internal tool, then 10 seconds wait is really not so bad for a report like this. I've run into the same issues before where calling external APIs to get the most up to date data can take up to 30 seconds even. I would jus

One thing I've never been able to figure out with Django is how to properly handle javascript. How do you all handle stuff like js dependencies? What I do now is just copy and paste a dependency like mapboxjs and keep it in the static
