Yes, the system that gives my kid the best shot of getting admitted. /s Rich families want legacy admissions. Asian prefer grades and tests because they generally excel in those areas. Under-represented groups want to do away with both

If that's the case, why would they publish a paper and announce their "research" to the world?

Turning off mandatory rotation without strengthening other controls would simply allow users to keep their weak password (Spring2021! or {CompanyName}2021!) for a longer period of time.

"Culture fit" is just another way to discriminate a candidate based on race, age, or gender. HR from my company has explicitly told all interviewers not to use "culture fit" as a reason to disqualify a candidate presumab

I worked at a public university for a few years and can absolutely confirm the above. Subpar pay and some professors think rules do not apply to them because of their status or the "critical research" they are working on. To be fa

I often wonder if these name change/inclusion initiatives are started for promotion purposes. At least from my observation at work, it seems none of them are led by under-represented groups. Instead, they are mostly led by white/o

You raised a great point. All the diversity initiatives I came across seem to solely focus on race and gender but never age.

Yes - if it's setup like Google's union. It's optional and at this point, simply does not have enough clout to make any significant changes to affect my experience :)

I worked in a unionized IT shop for 6 years (now in SV) and here's my take: Pay transparency: union mandated pay band helps - no 2x/3x pay for the same position that's for sure. Though I do think this problem could be solved

While I do read non-technical books, I don't read fiction for the same reason. It does feel like a waste of time when I could simply watch TV/surf the net instead :)

People cheat for all kinds of reasons. I'd say in many cases it bears little or no relevance to their proficiency as an IC. For example, I've seen people cheat in a Computer History class (compsci elective) presumably because they

Everyone is on the remote work bandwagon right now because there's no adjustment in pay at the moment. For people with little or no ties in the area, it makes sense to move back home and save on rent. As far as I know, no company, othe
