This is an early version of the site so there's still a lot of work to do to explain this stuff on the site itself. To answer your questions: - All monitoring is from EC2's us-east-1 region. - I don't track the location of the sites, other

Ya that's true. I'm not sure yet how to handle placeholder sites. I could separate them based on a page size threshold but that might be more confusing.

Ya, the page could use with more descriptions. The response time is given in milliseconds and the number beside it (most of which are 0) is the number of incidents in the past hour. An incident is a timeout, error or slowdown.

The winner will be the first poster that will provide a program able to fragment Redis memory. Even if another program will be the first to be verified to work, the winner will be the first program that was posted and actually works. Is

That's good to know. I just wanted to separate the two usecases from the developer's perspective. I'm not qualified to make any authoritative conclusions about any particular solution.

For websites/apps this is true. There's already a straightfoward solution (which you point to): store passwords with bcrypt (or scrypt) and use HTTPS for all pages that send/receive the session cookie. For authentication APIs, it's less cle

A note about GoDaddy: their prices fluctuate. If you enter the site via a Google Ad, the price drops from ~$60 to ~$13 (I'm in Canada so I'd be interested to know what the prices are like from other places). 1. http://www.google.com/search

Yahoo has been lacking any major "must have" products in the past what, 10 years? That's not quite true. They have a pretty good fantasy hockey pool.

OSS is an opportunity. It's not about the software; it's about the services and the ecosystem. There are a lot of people making money from Wordpress plugins, themes, and development.

The biggest shell-related revelation for me recently was that ~ is a special character in SSH. If you have an SSH session that's hanging and ctrl-C / ctrl-D isn't responding, try typing "~." (without the quotes). man ssh | grep -A 30 ti

The key word was products, i.e. making a living from building tools for other developers. There are many more developer-run companies today than there were 10 years ago and the number will continue to grow. There have never been more opport

I use sorted sets for a lot of stuff (timelines mostly). A few other examples are job queuing, error logs (I write all error messages to a fixed length list), and rate limiting. Actually that last one works pretty well. The key is something

What about the other way around though? Storing the range, say, 159.18.0.0 - 159.18.255.255, and then querying to check if an address is in that range. The only way I can think to do this is to store the range as two integers, as you sugges

I use sorted sets quite heavily for timelines. And it's awesome. One usecase I can't figure out, is storing/querying IP address ranges. Is there a natural way with Redis to check if a number is within a given range? (without storing every v

It's great to live in a time when developers can build products for other developers.
