You don't really need to keep track of the vim mode, you start typing text and either your text is entered or you now have half of you code all in capital letters. But seriously, as with everything it has a learning curve which is quite min

I was a little confused also, I am under the impression that he is mentioning 2 points. 1) Attack on RSA to attempt to see if RSA has some attack on the RSA algorithm hidden. 2) Using an attack on SecurID to attempt to get more information

Helped my trouble shoot why sudo was taking 25+ seconds yesterday. Apparently it was timing out attempting to perform some NIS operations on a misconfigured setup.

I find it much harder to swallow the comments on reddit, at least here on HN there is a guideline which encourages comments which add to the discussion; whereas on reddit, it's a shamble of memes and novelty accounts which depending on the

Unfortunately proggit has become a cesspool, a complete juxtaposition of what reddit once was. I'm not familiar nor certain of a case where this has been turned around? Is it even advantageous for Reddit to attempt to remove the dregs from

You do realise jash (the one you replied to) is the creator of coffeescript? There are horrible ways to write a lot of code, especially in whitespace based languages. What does petty comparisons like this bring to the argument?

This isn't reddit, you're not going to get downvoted for incorrect grammar or spelling. Anyone who has been on HN for a day can tell it's a multicultural environment and there are many non-native english speakers. You shouldn't hold back yo

Rock climbing is fantastic, but as your claim that it doesn't make you 'fit' are a bit misleading. As with anything there are correct techniques and if overall 'fit'ness and being able to run a mile are related then you're doing it wrong in

That plaintext of the shared secret doesn't have to be the password, it can be some other authorisation token which acts as a first level of auth before a password hash scheme is used. As I said, there is _almost_ never a good reason for st

It's never (almost) acceptable to be storing a users password in plaintext or encrypted. Time and time again we see this and I'm glad most of the time there is public outcry and the developers mostly respond with some variant of "We're usin

What do you mean by secure encryption algorithms which are reversible? Encryption implies an operation in reverse order to exist, otherwise it is in essence, digesting. It's always (almost) completely unnecessary to store encrypted password

That isn't the point he is making though, there is a non zero probability of an application attack resulting in the decryption of the passwords. The attack vector is now on at least 2 fronts if it stores encrypted/plaintext passwords; the l

Opinion: This shadiness is not in having a referral link at the beginning of the article which seems to be the "accepted" way. The problem arises when almost every noticeable use of the word is a link and a referral code. Note probably not
