The general consensus is Vanguard is amazing for how they revolutionized investing with index funds, its ownership model really does put investors first, but as a brokerage, it has quality-of-life issues with its website and apps. Spending

There are 42 BSL-4 facilities in the world. I'm too lazy to do the math, but I'm curious what percent of the world's population is near one. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biosafety_level#List_of_BSL-4_...

It guides policy. If it was engineered, it means this is research we really shouldn't be doing. If it was a wild virus being researched, it means we need to take the threat of spillover more seriously.

There's a greater burden of proof for spillover when there just happens to be a lab doing virus research near the epicenter of the outbreak.

The only options for this sort of backup are tape, HDD, or cloud. Optical media were never really feasible for backups because they were either too small or writers were too expensive. Supposedly AWS Glacier used them at some point, but you

There are tall buildings near some baseball fields that can see onto the field, and some even have bleachers on the roof. There was no contract with MLB if you watch the game from there.

Somewhere I heard that there would have been much less drama around the TikTok ban if the US had framed it as tit-for-tat punishment for not allowing US social media platforms in China.

There's the "Grindr threat"[1] There are metadata threats around who's connected to whom, where users are, where they go, etc. There can be leaked data in videos posted by military personnel 1: https://www.the

It's not necessarily the use of AI tools (though the license parts are an issue), is that someone submitted code for review without knowing how it works.

The incentive is to produce tasty food that makes as much money as possible. Food is so cheap in the US that I doubt that was the limiting factor. Like, we make cheap candy that is 99% sugar.

You can always short SONO. It'll probably muddle along for 5+ more years until someone buys it up for the brand name. There just isn't the market for their speakers that there used to be.

Unlike in paint, there isn't an obvious reason for lead to show up in protein powders, so it must be something like bioaccumulation exacerbated by processing. How can we grow plans with less lead?
