I was a junior back then, and was afraid to speak up that Rational Rose is just a waste of time. Don't you dare say that about LLMs!

Some fields are important for HR, others for Security, others for BI. Gotta have different visualizations for everyone. LLM here would be like another person or another team, that decides what's important for me, what I should see and

Graphical schema image generation was in IntelliJ for like 15 years at least? Since the times with all the craze about UML "disrupting" software engineering.

PgAdmin I think is more for working with data, I use Intellij DB editor mostly for writing complex SQL (with autocomplete, coloring, auto-formatting). It also recognizes your regular programming code strings as SQL and can also autocomplete

Very Mac-oriented, and I think IntelliJ built-in DB editor has way more functions / features.

I assume you run cloud-sql-proxy as usual (for proper TLS and passwordless IAM authentication), and then it's just another postgresql port for you. Any tool like psql can connect to it.

Statistics once got me off-guard because that historical baggage. I thought I knew the probability theory pretty well to carry it to Statistics, but man, Statistics is a very different beast because it developed independently of Mathematics

In some ex-soviet countries college students may go to introductory military training, and they never even tell students that they need earplugs when giving them an AK to shoot at a shooting range.

Almost every probability theorem starts with "let's take independent random variables". But in reality almost nothing is independent. Superdeterminism even claims that exactly nothing is independent.

The safest road is the closed one. I just want to say that in modern times safety is put as #1 priority, while it's actually always a balance. E.g. we wanted the safest airline industry, we'd close the airports. But we balance the

Good question, for me it was always the focus, e.g. systems programming is an infrastructure to build applications, in contrast to applications themselves. In server applications we really don't care if something takes 100 bytes of RAM

Yes, I agree that Romans could be the least cruel and the most humane at their times actually (well, except for Christians). Still, "the Joys of discovering" feels... distasteful.

Should it be a big embarrassment for Phys. Rev. Lett., a big dip in their reputation? The whole point of respectable journals is that they filter out bad quality papers.

In my field (server programming) readability trumps them all. Nested g() and h() can be much better if they are even just 1% easier to understand. No one cares about a few extra CPU cycles, because we don't write system or database cod

My opinion on that is the projects scale. Typically people came from a 10+ year Java project of 100+ engineers, to a greenfield advanced hello-world -- of course it's going to feel better and more productive. Also, as open-source folks
