I have feeling that this is quite an oversimplification. OS like Windows is times and times more complex than washing machine. I don't think that it makes any sense to choose OS by minimum requirements.

How can you be so sure? Even after reading all the source code, there still can be bugs, attacks, demanding letters from different agencies, misconfigurations, vulnerabilities in code and in libraries, etc. etc. etc.

Sorry, but thats just a perfect example why 'security through obscurity' is wrong. I have zero idea about security risks, but if fix does not mentioned anywhere, then for people that use previous version there no rush to upgrade.
