Is there any reason we don't require the government to create software that largely does the taxes for us? They have the W2s, etc. and it seems like they could fill most of the forms out. We'd just need to set the deductions.

I think this is a great explanation for consumer products. We can't possibly research every product in our lives and so we take short cuts. Great advertising allows us to make a quick decision that we can feel good about (i.e. we bel

What's the incentive for Eastern District to be so conducive to patent trolls? Is it otherwise too small to support the judges and staff?

Why aren't insurance companies putting pressure on the market to get more inexpensive options? Is the overall savings (~$200 every few years) just not worth it?

It's a good op-ed and I largely agree with Brooks but I find this point interesting: > I’d say civilization moves forward when we embrace rule of law, not when we abandon it. What Emily did that got called out (cyber-bullying) isn&#

I like the list although I disagree with it some. I think luxury goods are still a status symbol (iPhone X?) and I think she/he left out experiences. People want to look they're always having a good time and living life to the f

I hear what you're saying but the problem is that, when retelling the history of a large battle, no foot soldier plays a large enough part to give the reader a good sense of the overall event. An author can try to incorporate the grun

If I understand the article correctly, Rubin was released due to credible evidence of sexual misconduct but was given $90M going out the door. How is this appropriate punishment? The "news" of the article is that this needs to c

Agreed. And as bad as software is, humans are worse. Imagine how many things would go wrong if everything had to be done manually.

Agreed. Perhaps the first thing a "best practices" post should start off with is what kinds of problems serverless is best suited for.

I look at it this way: change is not going to be forced on the Chinese government by US corporations. That can only come from the Chinese population (with possibly a small assist from foreign governments). So what's the best way to h

I'm sure there's a good reason for this and I just don't know it: what's the advantage of wasm over the JVM; i.e. why not just use the JVM in the browser? I assume there are complexities in compiling C/C++ to the JV
