We're not talking about 'fire retardant'. The quote is: > macOS still has a completely retarded implementation of DisplayPort MST > completely retarded It's extremely frustrating how many people in this community

So you have read several times that this term is criticized as offensive, yet claim that in your perception the word is the opposite of offensive. What more would it take to get through to you? > In my perception, it's the opposit

Sorry but I think you’ve lost the plot. This has nothing to do with anti-vaxxing.

Interesting that despite never considering it to be ableist you knew exactly which word I was referring to. > I interpret it to be a stronger form of "stupid" or "moronic" And why do you suppose that is?

Came here to suggest projectors. I personally prefer my 1080p projector on a 100" fixed screen over a 50" 4k. When looking at projectors pay attention to the warranty period, and think about throw distance/placement.

Worth considering a projector, most of them are still "dumb". A model with decent brightness and a good fixed screen you can have a true theater at home for similar price to a higher end TV.

How long should a protocol upgrade take? I cant help but feel that IPv6 has a flawed upgrade path. It would be so much better to upgrade to a protocol that is directly compatible with IPv4 and does not require deployment and maintenance a

Endlesss.fm is the way to go for playing music with friends online for free. Instead of trying to beat network latency (which is impossible) endlesss provides a shared looper and a clock to sync all your gear to. This way you can jam with

Yup, this is one of several reasons I just pay the $5/mo for a similarly specced VPS with another provider.

Its about balancing between the needed properties, strength and weight. Similar thing for airplanes, a minor collision can ground a plane but would be a non issue for a tank.

Shuffle on Spotify doesn't act right either. If I shuffle my liked songs it will play roughly the same few songs every time, like they shuffled it once and cached that playlist. It’s a terrible shuffle implementation.

How about a 10 year old Acura or Lexus? Cheap-ish by now (although the used market is inflated currently), comfy and fun to drive, reliable and most of all no huge iPad in the dashboard.

To the people suggesting that renting or installing a few servers in a leased rack space with redundant cooling, power, conditioning and 24x7 security is somehow dangerous or hard, please go home and sleep it off. You are drunk off cloud k

It sounds good because they are ripping designs off and mass producing clones for cheap. In terms of build quality and feel there is a huge difference between a Moog or Korg and a Behringer. Behringer gear is made with the absolute cheapest

My main take aways from this are that cloud vendor lock-ins are real, and they can be hard to break free from. Perhaps that's more of a cautionary tale for new projects than a justification for the expense though.

I'd think that receiving even 1/5th the rate limit in a 5 minute window would be disorienting enough to render alerting effectively useless. I'd question the configuration which fires that many alerts in that time frame, and

It's wild to me that sites managing storage clusters at petabyte scale are doing it on AWS. I would think that by then you could save millions more by migrating to your own colocated hardware.

It really is. You can’t even wake the remote from sleep without sending a keypress to the TV. And the trackpad is difficult to use accurately. Totally over engineered for no benefit.

While listening to music you might hear something that stands out to you. Maybe a drum sound or chord or certain part. So you record a sample (or make note for later), then load the sound up in a sampler, chop it up, repitch it, warp it,

Unpatched? Not necessarily. Unpatched and unmitigated? Yes. Taking the time to build “defense in depth” into the architecture has saved my ass on many occasions.

This is why I like running LTS distributions where versions are fixed and security patches are backported. Unless you install from 3rd party repos chances are very good that updates will be seamless.
