I’m no fan of the CCP, but watching what’s going on over there vs. what’s going on over here (the US, but also Europe, and to some lesser degree, even other Western aligned Asian countries), I can’t help China is doing more things right tha

The newest CX-5, their best selling car, abandons the knob, if that’s what you’re referring to. Supposedly most buyers in fact, did not like the knob. This seems to follow other manufacturers that formerly had knob based controls but simila

Also, IIRC the latest version of their best selling car - the CX-5, abandons the knob for pure touchscreen. Supposedly the story is that outside of a small but vocal contingent on the Internet, most buyers did not like the knob.

Isn’t Java also used all over Silicon Valley? Maybe not the latest and hippest small startups, but still in many other more established orgs including FAANGs. IMHO what you describe is more attributable to .NET.

I don’t know a single person outside of online tech communities like HN that still uses Firefox. Virtually none of my non-tech friends know what Firefox even is.

Same. My impression was that if you can pay for it, American healthcare is unrivaled. And by “pay for it”, I don’t mean the typical employer provided insurance and visiting the usual doctors. I mean high end concierge care that starts at fi

I don’t think an equivalent Omega or Breitling is that much cheaper? Rolexes also keep their value incredibly well. I bought a nice Tag many years ago (I knew nothing about watches) and it’s now worth about $1000 on the used market at best.

Isn’t the thing with Rolex that the cheaper watches are some of the hardest to get? You can walk in to a dealer and walk out with a gold or two tone watch, but ask for a plain stainless steel model and they’ll laugh at you.

Curious what that fee covers beyond having direct access to the physician (and even there, beyond just consultations). If you needed imaging work or even procedures or surgeries - would that be extra fees?

I’ve heard of this, also known as concierge medicine right? But the figures I’ve seen quoted for such service usually begin in the four digits, sometimes five digits, annually.

Driving into Manhattan every day? Yes. Occasionally? Tons of middle class people do it. The majority of my social circle consists of middle and upper middle class Newjerseyans. Many commute daily into Manhattan via public transit. But if th

One thing I don’t understand about modern warships - why do they carry so few offensive weapons? American ‘Burkes and peer destroyers from some Asian navys have a shitload of VLS cells, but my understanding is that the majority of these hol

As a resident of NJ that commutes into Manhattan, and works with many NYC dwelling colleagues, I feel NJ mentally does not exist for most NYCers. If I tell them about something in NJ, they look at me as if I’m talking about Alabama. Miami o
