I remember Pelles C being the first full C11 implementation, which I felt was impressive for such an unpopular toolchain. I guess they can't switch to a FOSS licence because of the licence of LCC? How much of the original code even r

Of course. I was strictly refering to .NET preinstalled in Windows as per the comment I replied to, which I believe only applies to Framework 4.8. Although, on re-read, maybe they meant there's a good chance another application alrea

Yes, they've modified the licence to require preserving their branding. I guess it's an anti-fork measure, you'd have to infringe either on their licence or on their trademark. https://news.ycombinator.com/ite

Thanks for the details! I was speaking from memory, but I see the last merge was quite a while ago. That somewhat increases my trust on the project then, although I'm not sure I'd ever trust a minor browser fork without further se

Goanna has been rebased over Gecko several times because they keep falling behind, hasn't it? So it's more of a periodically-hard fork.

The whole point of Turing's paper was to show that the Test doesn't answer whether a computer thinks, because it's a meaningless metric, but instead shows what the computer can do , which is much more meaningful.

Verlet integration became the go-to method for particle effects and soft surfaces back when people wrote their own game engines, mostly thanks to the paper documenting its implementation for the first Hitman game [1]. In fact, I'd say

To remove the original copyright notice, they'd need a copyright assignment (possibly implicit, as when the work is made for hire). They've already got a licence and they've infringed it by doing this.

Some people just hoped that picking a corporate-unfriendly license would be enough of a deterrent by itself, because most folks can't actually afford to sue. But infringers, big and small, are increasingly realising that these licenses

Except MS did it anyway: the author cooperated and MS still forked and removed the original copyright notice. Since this isn't the first time MS does this to a FOSS maintainer, it's clear this tactic doesn't help us.
