We don't even know what AI will look like once it gets into the workplace. Contemporary AIs are trained on data that is on the Internet. They're not trained on $company's customer service system or compliance framework. Once

Is it really anxiety? Seems more like pulling a bandaid off. These mortgages pay out below the fed rate and there are way too many of them.

Powell is trying to save the economy and I don't think most people realize what they're in for if he fails. Give us a credit crunch.

I'm a big fan of the Schwinn recumbent I bought pre-pandemic. It was <$250 and has seen a lot of use. Not the nicest bike by a long shot, but it gets daily use.

I think there's a big gulf in our industry between people who lived through 2008-2010, and people who didn't. We might not go back to that dire of a situation, but I imagine it will be closer than we have been for quite some time.

> What can companies in the ML/analytics space do to help? ...nothing? Contrary to very wishful thinking, technology is not the tool to solve all problems, and it will never be a replacement for civic engagement.

I like classes because they're easier to code review and easier to read/reason about. The artifical limitations are good. At a large org that's way more important than initial write.

In a down economy, fewer people sell their houses, so housing prices haven't fallen as much as they would if interest rates were raised in a vacuum.

Speaking to a banking friend today, this almost seems inevitable at this point. So many banks did not expect interest rates to go up this much, this fast. Many banks are filling gaps right now, but with more money going out than going in (f

I saw a comment about demand response below. You don't opt your residential hvac into demand response unless you want to freeze. Juice is not worth the squeeze.

Somewhat completely off topic, but with interest rates "skyrocketing" compared to recent history, would it be feasible to "buy back" one's fixed rate debt? Or sensible?

This idea is being pushed hard right now. I see it everywhere. You can't grow most crops under solar panels. And the crops you can grow will probably have a lower yield. This is an idea that's meant to push replacing farmland with

There is a deaded comment here about California killing solar in April. I'm wondering, what is that about? Is there a looming regulation change? The states compete against themselves. If California does something silly regarding solar,

Four states have already switched over to a voucher system. I believe over a dozen more are expected to follow this year. Public education in the US will be dead within the decade. A multi-state strike would just hasten it.
