The PEP abstract says this: "Static typing as defined by PEPs 484, 526, 544, 560, and 563 was built incrementally on top of the existing Python runtime and constrained by existing syntax and runtime behavior"

If, going forward, 5% of all papers that use NumPy to get their results actually cite this paper, it will be one of Nature's most cited papers every year.

The current paradigm feels OK to me. Unfortunately there are a lot of old crappy "intro to Python" blog posts and tutorials still telling people to use 'sudo pip install' to install packages on their system Python. pip&#

NumPy binary wheels on PyPI (i.e. from pip) are built with OpenBLAS. NumPy from the official Anaconda, Inc. conda channel defaults to MKL. The conda-forge channel defaults to OpenBLAS. Explained in the NumPy docs here: https://nu

What language server did you use? These days both ccls and clangd should be able to handle Chromium.

Eglot will use the native C JSON parsing if Emacs is compiled with jansson support.

I'm a big fan of pyenv [1] with the pyenv-virtualenv extension [2]. The combination makes handling virtual environments with different Python versions incredibly easy. [1] https://github.com/pyenv/pyenv [2] https

Sphinx is very nice to work with, and it's been around for a long time. I've used it for Python projects, C++ projects (with doxygen and breathe), and some programming language agnostic things. It's almost trivial to pair Sph

I do think the rhetoric goes a bit overboard, but people are not wrong about the problem your comment addresses. That problem is orthogonal to this Instagram product. Imitation != theft.

Yeah I agree. Since this is an iMac thread.. I think notebooks will definitely be first to go ARM, and I wouldn't be surprised if the iMac user base would prefer that native x86 based processor for at least the next 5 years or so.

Gnuplot is really an awesome project. Though I don't use it all that much anymore, it will always hold a special place in my computing heart. In an undergrad physics lab it was my first experience with launching a program from a shell-

The physical accelerator will become useless (the magnets). The tunnel where the LHC exists right now is the old home of the LEP collider.

I think it really comes down to having the patience to learn how to extend your personal Emacs setup with the built in programming language: Emacs Lisp. From personal experience I can say that learning the basics of Emacs Lisp turned my rel

This was a nice timely read, I just starting learning Clojure because I want to dive a bit deeper into Lisp. Thanks for posting, and best wishes to the UK NHS.

It's unfair to rms to say that. He would be happy for corporations to use and contribute to any project associated with the GNU project (like GCC), if everyone wanted to play along in GPL land (which of course isn't reality).

I keep a clone of the main GNU Emacs git repository and build the emacs-27 branch (27 is the upcoming release) every few days on my MacBook (and the master branch on my Linux workstation).

Duke just suspended all classes until further notice (moving online); also adding a one week extension to spring break (which is this week... probably to prepare for the online setup) and asking people not to return to Durham.
