Tony Hsieh is awesome. I can't wait to read this book. Zappos is a company to be looked up to. If all companies were this fanatical about customer service, the world would be a much better place.

Wow, that's fascinating. If anyone has any more info on this, I'd really like to learn more.

What is the magnitude of this, and how many servers do you have to buy to do the deployment? Also, while the DNS is switching there would be some major database inconsistencies between the two server stacks. How do you deal with that?

That's interesting. The reason I wrote a post about it, though, is because it seems somewhat disturbing/alarming to me. I think many first time startup founders have a very visceral, almost animal-like feeling that if they make it big and b

Awesome! Sadly, I don't have academic access anymore, which is why it was hard for me to find. Also, it's copyrighted so I figured linking to it might be morally dubious.

Sure. I first learned about the research from a brief footnote in the book Phantoms in the Brain by V.S. Ramachandran (highly recommended). Then I spent quite a long time looking for the article sourced, by Tinbergen, which is: Tinbergen N.

I think this is the best option for most people. Audis are like Macs, they retain their value really well.

Something happened to Michael Arrington recently. His opinion articles like this one are quite good and I am enjoying them.

Ah, that makes sense. I'm not sure why I thought EBS was stored on S3. Thanks for the detail.

I was under the impression that S3 data, including EBS, has never had a case of data loss that Amazon knows of. Where did you get your annual failure rate data?

This isn't always true. When I was 12, I became the youngest Apple certified tehcnician. And I can tell you very clearly: my parents did not force or encourage me to do that at all. I am an American and I was older than this girl, but I don
