I think you point to an important tradeoff. I also think it's clear the industry is leaning toward the decision that it is not worth giving up the advantages of static typing for the 0.1% of users who really don't want type info i

If you like the look of Factorio but are (like me) intimidated by the open-endedness of it, check out the puzzle games by Zachtronics, the developer of Shenzhen I/O. Because they're divided into small levels that teach you how to

Yes, that’s about it. Also the infinite nesting best exemplified in Workflowy. People who are into Roam seem to believe that once you start building a graph of these relationships that you can quickly click through, the result is surprising

The React team’s claim (see my other comment) has been that by using React at all, you are already fully bought into all this magic, it’s just harder to tell.

I don't see how generators would change anything here. "with effects", "stateful", and the integration between the two are all equally important in the statement.

An important point I don't see being made in the article or the comments is that hooks are meant as a more faithful (or at least less misleading) representation of what was going on under the hood in React already. The problem with the

The chapters from 13 on are great for anyone as an intro to how JS interacts with the browser. I agree with the other commenters that the early chapters would probably move a little slow for an experience programmer, though it is beautifull

I thought it was obvious that the author means javac as a stand-in for the general idea of compiling and running code from the command line rather than having an IDE do everything for you. Her arguments apply to any Java compiler.

I think you're underestimating a) how hard it is to make a library like this that's any good b) people will want to support them anyway $249 (or $599 for a team license) one time is really very little if it does what it promises.

The overall average per person has declined (though not really since the 80s). However, in the same time frame, the proportion of women in formal work went from 35% to 60% [1]. So the story for men and women looks very different. Note also

You don’t need to minify during development, so like building from scratch I’m not sure how much it matters for a practical benchmark. I don’t at all doubt esbuild is faster than the others, just in practice I doubt it’s as much faster as t
