Is it even Zed’s fault if your linux system/setup over-eagerly prefers cpu rendered graphics because of old political and religious driver licensing issues?

You don’t need a high-end gpu zed runs perfectly fine on embedded graphics. There are no shortage of software configurations on linux that result in cpu graphics rendering, which is the problem.

You’re both being antagonistic. While Zed may be VC backed, they’re providing a world class open source editor experience for free. There are no expectations in either direction. You’re not a special customer paying them to care about Linux

I use both Zed and JB. The thing with the jetbrains stuff is (1) it costs money and (2) you only need the fancy refactoring features occasionally. With modern LSP you can “find usages” and “goto definition” and you get live symbol completio

Humans can also do that, they’re just slower and presumably more expensive.

And to the products that need the carveouts the most, small fledgling apps where the margin matters intensely, it’s not available.

I honestly don’t care enough to even have even remotely thought about my reply as trying to dunk on anything. You’re awfully jacked up for a comment so far down an old thread that you and I are probably the only ones who will ever read it.

There are many laughably horrible attempts at fonts out there on free font sites (I remember my days learning to write software in the early 00s), sure. But there are also high quality professionally designed and typeset fonts available for

Typography is important. So important that we have really good looking fonts available for free. And a custom font isn’t going to be the deciding factor in whether your next AI powered social graph app sinks or floats. Guaranteed.

I guess you’ve never worked with one of those designers whose friend’s cofounder’s VC’s boyfriend shops at Neeman Marcus. Try telling one of them they have to use a normal legible tried and true font :s

Well, you and I agree, but there’s an entire industry and pop culture throwing the term around rather imprecisely (calling LLMs “AI”) which makes actual discussion about what AGI is , difficult. I guess I don’t understand the technical dif

The term AI has always bothered me for this reason. If the thing is intelligent, then there’s nothing artificial about it… it’s almost an oxymoron. There are two subtly different definitions in use: (1) “like intelligence in useful ways, bu

This is why I suspect that slapping “Artificial” in the acronym is rather forward of us as a species. If we do end up eventually with something we consider intelligent, there won’t be anything artificial about it.

Uh… what do you call mass downvoting anything reasonably skeptical? I saw comments saying “I’ll wait until the data can be replicated to believe it” turn grey almost immediately on most threads. And after we knew it didn’t replicate it took

The on-device hardware even does neat little tricks like shift your image around by a pixel or two so you don’t have to think about it. Haven't ever seen burn-in on an OLED, myself.

Yes, but the question is about devices that can reasonably run TLS. The answer is local acme with your router issuing certs for your ULA prefix or “home zone” domain.

If someone does that you’ve already been pwned. In reality you limit the CA to be domain scoped. I don’t know why domain-scoped CAs aren’t a thing.

Your router should use acme with a your-slug.network.home (a communal one would be nice, but more realistically some vendor specific domain suffix that you could cname) domain name and then you should access it via that, locally. your route

I truly empathize with your desire. But I can’t agree. To get to the point of the community feeling like startup equity is worth something on average, I think we need to figure out how to generate more favorable outcomes for startup emplo
