So if I have a 32GB RAM Macbook Pro, and the instructions say this: "Vicuna-13B This conversion command needs around 60 GB of CPU RAM." Does this mean I simply cannot run that model at all? Or will it rip into HD swap or something

I was daydreaming recently after revamping and dialing in my home media server really well (Plex plus all of the *Arr services plus torrents automatically downloading shows and hosting a large movie library)… Shouldn’t it be possible to cre

Interesting, I was just about to setup a Time Machine server on my home media NUC server today (running Ubuntu) to automatically backup all family computers while on the network. Would this be a better option than that? All of our important

I likely won’t ever get around to building this, but I feel strongly a genealogy/family media focused web app would be so useful. Scan and upload old photos, maybe have ai upscale and clean the, up, let your family tag the various old

Every few months I switch from digital notetaking on an iPad, to using notebooks. I think it's rooted in some weird anxiety or something, and I resolve it by saying "fuck it, I'm switching everything". My current routine

A way to “surface reliable information quickly” is to “find relevant web pages quickly”…so is extracting and summarizing info from the internet that matches the query using AI. You quoted the end, and said you instead wanted the means

I would love a wire framing tool that converts crappy sketches (ideally on an iPad with Apple Pencil) into low and high fidelity app mockups, and possibly other things like mind maps. Does his exist anywhere?

Converting that old iPad screen into a normal DisplayPort screen is really cool, could be handy on something like raspberry pi’s or nucs. In the thread linked to about that part, it’s not clear to me if that is an aftermarket part you can b

Something I’ve been pondering lately: with the release of all of these content generating language models lately, what will happen to the “scrape and train” process going forward? Aren’t we about to realize an infinite loop problem basicall

As soon as an article states you can use “product manager” and “project manager” interchangeably, you can immediately assume the author has no idea what they’re talking about. Convenient this article did that early on, saves everyone a lot

A decent rule of thumb I follow: If there's a gem/plugin/package that could do something I want in my product...use it. Don't write the code yourself, unless it actually straight up can't provide the UX or capabilit

I think we are right around the corner from actual AI personal assistants, which is pretty exciting. We have great tooling for speech to text, text to speech, and LLMs with memory for “talking” to the AI. Combining those with both an index

I don’t really know, haven’t measured. Likely less than a normal MacBook Air since the display is gone. Regardless, I live in San Diego and our electricity is already so overpriced that it just doesn’t even register for me anymore anyways.
