Just to add one more, this article from Erik Kennedy (the guy behind learnui.design) and the “copy work” technique noticeably helped advance my design skill. https://www.smashingmagazine.com/2017/02/improving-ui-de

Port and starboard are indeed fixed (same with bow and stern), so that no matter which way the boat is moving or the passengers are facing, those words always refer to the same physical sides of the boat :)

I was thinking if the model is: buy Version 1 for $99... then next year, Version 2 is out with lots of new features for the upgrade price of $79 -- well, then nothing really stops you from releasing new features under Version 1, but at so

That would be a choice, wouldn't it! The thought crossed my mind but somehow I see people not being happy with having to pay $X to unlock every little feature, heh. "Tell 'em what's behind tab number 3, Johnny! Johnny: M

Yeah, that's another way to go, and I considered doing that. The main thing I didn't like about that strategy was how I'd be sitting on lots of unused code between major releases. All the new features sitting on my SSD for mo

From the developer side I feel like this type of license makes the most sense to me too. After selling a desktop app with a license like that for a little while though, I’ve also unfortunately realized that not everyone understands it. I ha

I just ran across a mention of gpt4all in another thread, and it looks like the team is working on training up GPT-J as an open alternative to the Llama-based model: https://github.com/nomic-ai/gpt4all#short-term

Yep, templates are type-checked, even though it's not JSX. Svelte is already running a compiler on the components anyway, to figure out the reactive stuff and to generate the minimal code required to update those specific spots in the

I don’t know if there was an implicit “besides Svelte” in there, but if you’re open to it, Svelte works well with TypeScript. The types flow into the HTML expressions too. I also like how little boilerplate there is compared to e.g. adding

Much like Chuck Norris references in movies from 2004, I get the sense that this advice is a product of its time. One of those “it makes more sense if you were there” things. (It even starts off acknowledging that it’s an article about curr

I’ve had good luck with this CableMatters USB KVM switch. It switches the USB devices along with a DisplayPort. So I leave the monitor’s input alone, and run its DisplayPort to this, and then DP cables out to my Mac and PC (well, DP-to-USBC

The “industry where 80% of bookings were still done using pen and paper” seemed like a red flag to me. To my eyes that means they don’t need/want/buy tech solutions to this problem and it’ll be a huge uphill battle to convince the

I’ve been on the lookout for a better way to do embeddable videos. The YouTube one is fine, but for a landing page, it’s not great that YT (of course) tries to get you to watch recommended videos right afterward. I was actually going to say
