A long time ago I gave up on trying to convey much meaning in version numbers, and have used YYYYMMDDBB (BB = build number for that day, starting at 0) for well over a decade, and I love it. There are many 'pros' to this approach:

Well, it was soon after they really got their shipping rhythm going. I got mine in the mail, it sat on my desk for a few weeks because I was busy with other stuff, and it made me sad to just have it sit there unused. I wasn't completel

Unfortunately, this take is overly simplistic for a lot of scenarios (I'm looking at you, broadcast TV).

Infuriating fact if you have to deal with historical time stuff: in the U.S., it used to be that not only could each city decide whether or not it observed DST, it could also decide on its own when DST began and ended. It was this way unt

His points are why I like Svelte. YMMV, but for me it hits the sweet spot of not having to do a lot of stuff by hand like we did in the jQuery (and earlier) days while also not being this massive, intrusive thing.

Anecdata: I know several life coaches and the main thing they have in common is that their personal lives are all a hot mess. It's one of the most depressing examples of "those who can't do, teach".

I love iTunes, in the sense that I credit it with being the thing that got me to abandon the Apple ecosystem. I don't miss the constant battle with that cursed program.

Yeah, it is in fact very sensible. The following is an uncharitable take but here goes: the stereotypical social media conservationist will be 100% anti-logging because there's no room for nuance - you either love the planet or you

Be sure to make complete use of any subsidies you can get through the marketplace. For example, if you saved up some money to live off of while you get your business going, it's very possible that your net income for the year could be

Self-employed since 2009 (can't believe it's been that long). Started out doing dev-for-hire work with a friend: web sites and mobile apps mostly. Along the way we built up a "war chest" to self-fund something of our own

I wonder if it would make more sense for the previously-traversed UI to move off to the side, rather than having the user move to follow it, as a way to reduce the amount of mouse travel required from the user. They'd always need to mo

I think the problem is that if you can't fix whatever is causing your body to attack your own pancreas first, it doesn't really matter if you're able to slowly regenerate the insulin-producing cells - you can't make any

From the public info at least, this is one of the better examples of how to handle layoffs: generous severance, an apology that sounds sincere, a reasonable amount of info, etc. To the commenters saying this is just about juicing profits: o

Hehe, to me these contrarian comments are strongly reinforcing my point about overzealous pedantry. :) Of course the specific string '6174' is specific to base 10, but the idea itself can be applied to other bases. Here are some

Eh, I don't know - it doesn't really add much value most of the time, because these days more or less everyone uses base 10 by default, so it's entirely reasonable to assume base 10 unless stated otherwise. An argument again
