Reading the Airbus press release, I wonder if this is what happened: Solar radiation event led to alpha particle induced data corruption in a flight control computer memory (could be DRAM, SRAM, on-chip cache, registers...). These failures

Something seems off when the same nonsensical report gets through the world's journalists (ok...arts graduates, but none of them is married to an engineer??), is published everywhere, then many hours elapse and still nobody has been ab

LLMs are wonderful for this. I can't write hardly a line of shell script without looking something up. And then there are three different ways to do <thing> so I spend time beard-tugging as to which way to do it. Now I just tell

Curious how a software update can be rolled back to mitigate a "solar radiation risk" (which would typically imply a hardware radiation susceptibility issue). Perhaps the software update comes in the form of new EEPROMs, something

Fever isn't just a symptom. It's a defense mechanism. The idea is that use of antipyretic drugs may make the infection worse.

Also: a culture of constant churn in libraries which in combination with the potential for security bugs to be fixed in any new release leads to a common practice of ingesting a continual stream of mystery meat. That makes filtering out mal

This is backwards. Those people got into the positions they have by having money to spend , not because someone wanted to pay them to do something. (Or they had a way to have control over spending someone else's money.)

Confused why the article author believes this is a surprise. The foundations of mathematics and computer science are basically the same subject (imho) and dualities between representations in both fields have been known for decades.
