Why it needs to be in base? valgrind is in ports, it's just a pkg_add away for installing it.

This is a misconception. The "lag a lot" is very much debatable. For a lot of areas, specifically OpenBSD, is pushing the boundaries[1], not lagging behind. That's why they don't guarantee user space stability or even AB

That's not true. Just because from the user perspective it seems not much is changing, there are tons of changes underneath. They don't guarantee user space stability like Linux does, so they can move faster (including upstreaming

That's not true. There is pledge(2) and unveil(2) (just to start) and the whole point of them is to _make it usable_. Some Linux distros have a basic config for SELinux, but if you need to change it for anything, it's so difficult

The Spleen font has, among other sizes, the 5x8, which is pretty similar. It's the default for OpenBSD drm console, although using a different size. It's constantly being updated. https://github.com/fcambus/sp

I don't know if you are talking about Linux the kernel, Linux the entire distro, Linux the filesystem (out of tens of supported filesystems), but "arranged masterfully" is big statement. From 2 days ago: https://ne

Not the simplest way of doing this, but ansible might be an option. IMO the advantage is being able to customize the configuration file depending on the host OS, IP address, attached filesystem, etc. This is useful because sometimes you wan

Wish I had this flexibility with other kinds of hardware, like a phone. Having to throw out a much newer and completely functional hardware 2 years after being released, because there is almost nothing you can do with it is not good. (And f

As a long Firefox user, I did switch to Chrome/Iridium lately. When Firefox decided to attack the problem of market share with engineering, 2 things were happening (almost) at the same time[1]: 1) the deprecation of the old add-on engi

Every time someone posts something about OpenBSD, there is someone who will post how hardware support is a problem. Maybe, not everything is supported, but on ThinkPad, almost all (if not all) hardware is supported, yes (lots of developers

Some people might think "why learn awk today when there is Python, Go, etc". But a lot of tasks (even big ones) can be done easier with this tool. The fact that most OSs have a POSIX compliant version of it in the base system als
