Social recovery wallets address the first objection. Proof of Stake reduces blockchain energy consumption by a lot. I've seen people quoting that a proof of stake block production consumes about as much energy as a Google search.

Just want to say that I had the POV of the grandparent comment, but your answer was a very useful and real description of a particular problem of accepting crypto-currency. So thanks for sharing!

I would like it if Metamask connected to a distributed hash table of Ethereum node providers and sent transactions to random subsets of those nodes. Then if there was some way to track the reliability of these nodes to make some kind of ran

Filecoin is a mechanism for someone to pay to ensure that data stays available. So if a group of people wanted to ensure that myoldwebsite.com stays available through IPFS and the IA, they could spend Filecoin. The difference between it and

pBFT research existed since the 90s, but I'm not sure if they had good leader election mechanisms or an incentive to participate as a node.

There's a bunch of cool stuff if you Google "proof of {humanity, personhood}". Here's the wiki page: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proof_of_personhood It's all pretty new and not proven long t

It's an interesting question, but in my personal view trying to weigh the total moral value proposition of new technology is so incredibly difficult. If one could do it well, you could predict the future. As an interesting hyperbolic c

I really agree that it's good to go in with a level head. If you highlight the extremes of either "believers" or "non-believers", both sides seem like low effort takes. I bucketed crypto projects into two categories

More or less, yes you can do that. Netlify works well with git-ops and will automatically build and publish to your prod domain or hidden staging domains based on easily configurable rules. Their docs explain it pretty well.

Not the parent, but I'm guessing it's the idea that the script always moves the system to the same steady state. Similar to how Ansible tries to be and how Kubernetes controller loops work.

Yeah, it is a question to be determined if people would interoperate assets across games. I think if the NFT market becomes large enough, that will happen. I think the way to grow the market is first with user-to-user trades within a game,

Oh, boy! Time for everyone to bash on crypto. For me, the proof of NFT validity is the fact that for more than 10 years people have been pouring money into owning video game assets, when most of the time those assets are non-transferrable t

Transferring ownership of an NFT would not work just with digital signatures and IPFS, though. I could sign a transaction saying "I transfer this NFT to you", but unless you trust me or some authority, you have no guarantee than I

I don't use Windows, but I very easily use pass across multiple Linux, Mac, and Android devices. Sometimes I forget to git push something, but that's pretty rarely an issue for me. Set up requires a bit more work than 1Password, e

Habitual good players actually have a metagame that spans across individual games. If you are too backstabby, it hurts your chances in further games, so you need to be very selective with your betrayals.
