The vast majority of Wi-Fi routers are MIPS-based. They're inexpensive, widely available, and have have a vibrant developer community. They are cost-competitive with single-board ARM computers, especially when you consider that they include

It should be possible to get exceptions raised in event listeners too (including stacktraces) if you wrap the DOM prototypes. I do something similar in the exception catcher we use at Cue: https://github.com/Cue/greplin-exception-catcher/b

The same thing can be done with SF MUNI. http://www.nextmuni.com/googleMap/?a=sf-muni&r=KT&r=... I check this before I leave every morning. I live just north of the Muni Metro East yard, so I can tell when a nice empty train is ab

For what it's worth: this article is syndicated from Business Insider. It wasn't written by San Francisco Chronicle staff. Here's the original: http://www.businessinsider.com/the-sudden-mysterious-exit-of...

Apple's manifest supports spreading the video across several images (the spinning earphones use this). Real-world video (filmed with a camcorder, not just a screencast) of any length probably wouldn't work well at all with this compression

I was going to use Blogger, but multi-login bit me. I had already written the draft in Docs, so I just published that. (I also like how plain published Google Docs look) I went ahead and added a really short byline though.

It doesn't look like Sublime is using the same technique as Apple, but it does look really interesting. It looks like their system allows for better reuse of images, and it is a lot simpler too. It might be less optimal though for frames wi

The image data is read from the JPEG files in order as a series of 8x8 pixel blocks (in left-to-right then top-to-bottom order). Each instruction is basically "draw the next {{length}} blocks from the JPEG files to location {{location}} on

I think Apple's aim with these videos is for them to be a seamless, ambient way for the page to come alive (sorry if that sounds cheesy). Asking the user to install a plugin defeats the purpose here. The keynote and Johnny Ive video are a l

It definitely works on iPhone (I've tried on my 4S and on Simulator). Apple's JS disables the animation for iOS 4.x and below, so maybe that's why it wasn't playing on your friend's iPod.

Yes, that's right: I'm comparing CriOS to Mobile Safari, not to Chrome for Android or PC/Mac. That's an interesting point about layout. I hadn't even considered how font size adjustment and such comes into play.

Only JS execution is 3x slower -- everything else (DOM, layout, repaint, parsing) is the same. Most web pages (and even web applications) are rarely bottlenecked by JS execution speed. (There are a few exceptions to this rule...for example,

Node has http://nodejs.org/docs/latest/api/url.html built-in. URI.js could be really useful for developers building web apps that need to do a lot of URL parsing or manipulation. But developers who only need basic functionality outside of

You can do a lot of URI parsing without a library at all -- it's built into the DOM of every browser, even IE6. var temp = document.createElemenet('a'); temp.href = 'http://www.google.com/search?q=foo#blah; alert(temp.hostname); //

That only works if it's surrounded by parenthesies. A bare object literal is not syntactically valid JavaScript.

Opera 11.50 works fine. Make sure that: 1. You're running the latest version of Opera. 2. You're not spoofing as another browser.
