I don't understand this at all. Whenever I ask Gemini 3.1 Pro Extended, or Claude 5 Max something in chat, the most I ever wait is maybe 30 seconds. Is that really so bad?

I think all the Opus complaining stemmed really from 4.7 onwards switching to adaptive thinking, which meant a lot of the time it was thinking less or even not at all.

That goes a long way yes. Most of these products have built up to hundreds or maybe thousands of engineers over the years, and if you can keep it going with just a handful in Italy, that is a serious cost optimisation.
