It’s quite rare for the average website to actually hit 1Gbps, that’s certainly true. Nobody makes webpages big enough to hit that speed, or even for that top speed to matter. But I can download games from Steam at approximately full speed,

Remember, we are talking about minimums here, the least common denominator. At 100×20Mbps you are not handicapped like you are if you are stuck on dialup. Live 4K video chat needs less than 20×20Mbps, but remember also that most people don&

No, they didn’t. They decided not to raise the definition of broadband from 100×20 Mbps up to 1Gps. And that’s simply because 100Mbps is actually a lot of bandwidth. We just don’t have any killer applications that need more than 20Mbps. 4K

When I implemented one I simply filtered the results that came back from previous requests to see if they matched what the user had typed in the mean time. That way the UI might get relevant results with lower latency than would otherwise b

It’s also worth noting that this isn’t really free software. It uses a Creative Commons license with the noncommercial and no derivatives clauses. At best it is “source available”; you cannot distribute any changes that you make or adapt it
