We all just accepted CMake. It's not perfect but it works. C++ with SDL and Lua in a mono repo should be trivial. SDL3 supports CMake and Lua is simple to compile and make a CMakeLists.txt for.

When I give short talks at schools about game dev I try to make it super clear that we are all born game designers. We all make up games as children and a large part of that is story telling. Every child has seen a face in a cloud and '

Getting lost is important in life. As you say, you'll discover more and experience more. How you remember something has more value than how it was. Over time it will morph in to the truth you experienced. In the same way a painter capt

Luckily I live in London, UK. There are many metal, rock and alternative pubs. Most cities will have at least one. Small rural town will not though :( But the metal pub is really just an example. Any activity where people regularly come tog

I love heavy metal. So I go to metal pubs. I meet people, we talk and listen to each other. I've been talking to the same people for 30+ years but I meet new people EVERY time I venture out. I may see them again, I may not. Who cares?

Everything is of it's time. They pushed the barriers back in their time so that we could enjoy a better world now. They never claimed to be omniscient and that is to all our benefits. Casual racism has and always will be there. No poin

On of the many reasons I switched to FreeBSD over 20 years ago. Kernel and user-space developed together. No surprises, just consistent productivity.

For the best reason, curiosity, I am learning about amplifier circuits. I really appreciate this link. Thank you. I also appreciate the no bullshit nature of the website and texts contained within. What a joy.

Agree 100%. Using something like py2exe creates a self contained "python script". This comes with a lot of problems for the developer but minimum problems for the user.

There is a certain type of tyranny to the mindset in this blog post. The constant pressure to perform for an imagine audience, the "self worth through the prism of others" trap etc. More chilling is the dismissing of others that d

The only really reliable use I discovered for AI so far is rubber-ducking. As you dig down it's often so hilariously useless it sparks my decaying intelligence to offer up a gem. Less fruitful than talking to a Junior Engineer but more

"We are planning to replace all essential Linux tools." It would be nice if they commit to replacing more than just Linux tools. There are numerous quirks/additions to the GNU utils that the BSDs don't want or need.

I'm a long time Directory Opus (dopus) user which costs around 50 US$. Dopus is more extendible but probably not as fast. Seems like a reasonable price to me. When you deal with a LOT of files like I do as a game dev it pays for itself

I miss the days when we used to implement custom versions of stuff like this. Now it's all "just use Unreal" and every game has the same tedious bugs, glitches and frankly gameplay. Oh well.
