I was going to say that one nice aspect is that rollbacks are less frequent because the size of each deployment is smaller. But I've worked on million line code bases that still do weekly CICD pretty well, so I don't know if that

For me it's the repetition in horizontal tasks. Need to update TLS version? Need to move to a new region? Need to add i18n? You have to do these things 20 times instead of one.

My understanding is that Anthos is more like AWS K8s Everywhere (and Azure Arc), and that Google doesn't really have an Outposts style offering. Is that not the case?

Yes but, given Thanksgiving weekend accounts for a huge percentage of annual retail sales in the US, most companies are reluctant to let anyone touch anything even remotely connected to production that weekend. (My company has been in produ

I don't see any postmortems or any root causes on their incident history page. Just "problem resolved". Do they not make these public?

Granted, it's probably the best time of the year for github to break, precisely because nobody else is pushing production changes....

Given role titles, it sounds like you are at Google and interviewing at Microsoft. In my experience, Microsoft is more aggressive at pushing you into management. Google seems to have more opportunity and culture of people working in a purel

So now could a similar analysis be done for HCQ? Granted, presumably patients coinfected with malaria would be far less numerous and far more obvious than those with parasites. But any other comorbidities that HCQ might affect?

Awesome, now that we've just spent a year rewriting our backend with callback hell to make it async, we can spend the next year rolling it all back.

Two days and so far it's worked. Drops 1% power overnight (compared to 8% per hour pre-change), and connects straight back to wifi upon wakeup. Note hibernation is still disabled. This is just sleep. And I didn't hack anything A

FWIW I disabled "Allow network connectivity during connected-standby" in group policy and it seems to be better (fingers-crossed). Apparently I'd set that to "enabled" last year when trying to deal with the wifi fla

It's been a while but I think I had that working too, except wifi would be totally dorked up after waking. I'd have to manually disconnect and reconnect each time (xps 9700). That was more annoying than being dead 1/3 of

I think some inflation will do us good. Things get pricier so people buy less, thus require the things they do buy to last longer, and we move away from the disposable everything culture and all its byproducts.

Still confused how 32 core M1 Max competes with Nvidia's thousands-of-cores GPUs. Certainly there are some things that are nearly linear with core count, or otherwise they wouldn't keep adding cores, right? Edit: Found answer here

I think much of the same could have been said for Heroku and its ecosystem. They tried a few critical services and plugins for everything else. It works great for some things, but not the enterprisey ones that are actually the profit cows.

People still had kids during the cultural revolution. People still had kids during the 80s famine in Africa. People are certainly still having kids in Afghanistan today.

My guess is people of Afghanistan won't stop having kids even though their conditions are much worse, so none of that stuff probably makes a difference at scale. Though of course individual circumstances and decisions may vary.
