Nothing can infer _all_ types. Or even much of a subset. I was surprised to learn that Hindley Milner can't infer "id" as a function argument, and attempting to extend it to do so results in undecidability: https://

If they want to operate in the country. Is google going to leave whole countries just because of being required to use and compensate local news? Essentially it's a tariff.

Seems like nim could be a good replacement? GC when you need it and explicit control when you need that.

Paradigm-wise I find these the most interesting. All the others (maybe except prolog) are really just different ways to write a sequence of instructions. HW definition is fundamentally different. It does everything all the time and you have

IME you're gonna screw it up the first time anyway, and the simplest option is usually the easiest to patch once you figure out what you actually need.

Or just realize that the formula for stopping distance due to friction is independent of mass.

The thing I can't get is how it falls in gravity (rate of acceleration in a gravity field is mass independent), but pulls a spring upward.

I feel like the first example plus https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bell%27s_spaceship_paradox reveals a need for something beyond Newtonian gravity.

It's wrong anyway. The friction force would be the opposite direction, but then the acceleration due to a force on the negative mass would flip direction again. So it would slow down like a positive mass.

There's also the projectively extended definition, where positive and negative infinity are defined to be the same thing. It has some nice properties like division by zero is defined, but you lose total ordering of course. In a way tha
