I was always amazed by the old jazz recordings that were never released on CD but were on Napster. Somebody cared enough to convert vinyl to mp3.

I'm doing the same. I cancel the same day I subscribe so I can watch for the month without a perpetual bill.

My take is that the appraiser is simply protecting the bank from making a giant mistake. They'll prevent a 100K house for getting a 200k loan. Our previous house sold for 330K when most of the previous sales had been 250-300 for the

The listing agent should have expertise in the valuation for the ask price. I don't think appraisers are generally involved. Appraisers are primarily working for the mortgage company. My last 4 appraisals have been within a couple t

This is deeply engrained in our culture. I honestly cringe when I see my nephews leaving food on their plate.

I like the disconnect between this reality and the "consumer driven health plans" being offered by employers

Taxis are really a short term play. Long term is really transport as a service - who owns the market when people no longer own cars.

There was the old "raincoat expense report" urban legend back when I was in Big 4. Consultant left raincoat on subway while traveling for business and ran replacement cost through on expense report. Admin rejected the expense. Co

I think so. The cashier checked .com with her phone to verify my claim. I can see them not changing signage to reflect constantly changing online prices, but I'd expect them to ring up the same OR have some sort of * next to the pric

There's definitely a race to the bottom going on with the free Fidelity funds and Vanguard reducing the dollar minimum by 70% for a lot of admiral shares.

I think it's absurd that I have to price match bestbuy.com when I buy something at the store. It's like they're actively trying to kill shopping in the store.

I think I save $100 every time I don't step inside a Target store.

I've seen some in offices, but they are shared resources that you can use as needed instead of someone's permanent desk.

First one I heard about was using sound amplifiers for hunting instead of hearing aids from an audiologist.

The HD280s are basically equivalent to this. Similar noise attenuation and already designed to work as headphones. I used to switch between the earmuffs with earbuds below and the HD280s when playing drums along to music.

I never had a single stinkbug in the 13 years I lived in my previous home. I moved 10 miles north in the same city and the new house was full of them.

Most corporate dev jobs can be effectively handled by someone who can reliably show up and pull words from a database and display them on a screen.

We were pretty impressed with ourselves when we replaced all of our corporate intranet sites created in FrontPage and Site Server with SharePoint. Not really sure if justice was served at this point.
