I am so done with these rants while the hosting page has 16 potential trackers reported by Privacy Badger, including both Facebook and Google. If you are truly outraged, do something about it besides baiting me with even more trackers. Regu

Harvard, unlike some other Ivies such as Columbia, let's you take time off your degree without penalty to explore ventures and other ideas. So the ones who don't succeed may have simply returned to Harvard to complete their degree

Yep, they really gave out the data. One example is "instant personalization" where Facebook partners would get full copies of Facebook user data including images, likes, friends, etc. It was turned on by default without user notif

It specifically says "aggregated and anonymized" data, not personal data. Even then, I imagine with the Facebook backlash, this will be heavily scrutinized.

But they do a better job of keeping that information private, whereas Facebook provided the actual data to their partners and advertisers.

I'm surprised that E.T. Jaynes Probability Theory, nor Ploya's Mathematics and Plausible Reasoning is mentioned at all in this book, even in the references.

I’m an Extension student and have TF’ed for three classes. I think you get a lot of value for the full course instead of the MOOC. Grading, feedback, ability to ask questions, work on a team all significantly enhance the learning process. I

I fondly have paper copies of Vol I and Vol II on my shelf next to the Multics book. The PDF referred by the above seems to be only one volume, with command references not the technical papers.

Aetna, the US health insurance company, is planning to give away or offer a reduced price for Apple Watches to its 23 M customers. Apparently, following prescriptions is one of several planned apps to help increase health and reduce costs.

The most glaring package omissions are related to Machine Learning, e.g. 1) an R equivalent of sci-kit learn 2) A native R equivalent than the buggy interface to TensorFlow 3) A higher level ML equivalent to Keras or PyTorch.

For a statistician, R has a variety of packages that are unavailable in Python. RStudio is a very easy to use cross platform dev environment. With a different R kernel, you can take advantage of multiple cores.

I'd rather stop throwing more good money after bad. Why continue investing in a platform that will be obsolete before deployment at scale? Better to invest in a more modern, more flexible platform.
