I am imagining my mind recalling and replaying the 'greatest hits of dumb stuff davidw did' more frequently after this treatment and I don't really like the idea.

With my luck it'd replay that one time I did the stupid thing in high school more frequently.

People also absolutely lose their shit when someone does something like build a bike lane, or proposes letting the market allocate automobile storage for housing and businesses, rather than having a local jurisdiction invent some numbers.

"narco-trafficking boats" There's no public evidence of that though. No trial. It's the same as if we sent the navy to board those boats, put a gun to people's heads and execute them in cold blood.

Albertsons (and also Safeway) has a kind of hidden API that I use to pull all my grocery purchases into a Postgres DB in order to see what's what. https://bsky.app/profile/davidwelton.bsky.social/post/3m3

They want to 'succeed' in Idaho in any case, not Montana, which does not share a border with Oregon. I'm also curious about the 'massive insurrection'. Is that like the guy in the frog costume?

I wouldn't be so pessimistic. Here in Oregon we're working pretty hard at doing that, for instance. I'm definitely ok with 'virtue signalling' though. It's a lot better than vice signalling.

I took that train many years ago. At least back then it was faster to get off the train in Calabria, hop on whatever local ferry was next, and then grab another train in Sicily, depending on your destination. In my case it was Catania to vi

My guess is that they have specialized breeds and how they're raised and fed and such, so that dairy cattle wouldn't make for good beef and vice versa. They probably do use them somehow, but maybe for dog food or some similar use.

Looks very nice! Erlang's concurrency isn't 'cooperative' though - it has a scheduler, so even a runaway process won't bog down the whole system.

This is why people keep bringing up a carbon tax. It does a lot of the work to internalize all those externalities so individuals or groups don't have to try and figure all this stuff out.

It has. But the breadth and depth of how they're being used by this one in particular is really far, far worse than other recent ones of both parties.

I think the author makes a decent point with regards to 'problem solving' and better tools and how LLM's somehow feel different. Fortran is a better tool, but you can still reproducibly trace things back to assembly code thro

The current iteration of Silicon Valley is just sad to see. I remember the sort of techno-libertarianism from the 90ies, and... while I didn't always agree, it seemed at least kind of idealistic. Also unrealistic, but it didn't se

That sounds like "managing your expectations", as in the US is not supposed to be like China, but is becoming more like it. There's still a ways to fall though.

What's kind of depressing about this moment in general is that there isn't really a 'shining beacon on the hill'. If you don't like autocracy, China is way worse than the US. Europe is good in a lot of ways, but kin

A Tcl article and an Erlang article - good morning! I miss working with Erlang especially, but it's also certainly kind of a niche thing. Other languages are faster and have more effort being put into them.
