Often times the person shown the door leaves with far more equity than they should. That's unfortunately the last concern the board has. And if it's early enough in the process, the board, if required for the success of the company, can re

I wrote a comment on the site, but I think this is a terrible analogy. Keep in mind, I've both been fired by VCs and I've fired VCs . And while I've never fired a produce supplier, I've fired other vendors and I can pretty well imagine wh

But if Jerry Yang had sold Yahoo in 2008 then shareholders wouldn't be left holding a company today that is worth less than half what MSFT offered, would we? But that was an emotional decision, and he made the wrong one. Still not a moral q

It doesn't have any impact on it. You can deal with this in either case just fine. OpenDNS was an LLC for it's first 3.5 years of existence and then we converted to a C corp when Sequoia Capital invested.

Hey may agree to less than what he has today because by giving back a huge chunk of equity to the company it can allocate it to future hires. That way he is hopefully increasing the chances of his somewhat smaller stake being worth more la

Go get any reasonable SV lawyer to have him sign back his stock to the company and then cancel the shares. You can make him an advisor and give him a grant to recognize him for his early efforts. You will need all the equity you can as you

In business you are rarely forced to murder or whore yourself out. You are, however, constantly faced with changing your direction, compromising your vision or similar, all for some potential upside and downside. That's the nature of busi

I'm sure you'd agree that the quality of an idea has no bearing on the time that it was submitted. So I wonder... Do you think you've missed any investments because the company timing didn't coalesce with a funding cycle?

Except it's not allowed... http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc5321#section-2.3.5 RFC 5321 section 2.3.5 specifically prohibits TLDs from receiving email. Other RFCs back that up, actually including RFC5322 (not directly, but in wire format)

While this may be a left-hand doesn't know what the right-hand is doing kind of thing, I don't think this is good. It gets very tricky when companies try to be the arms dealers to both sides. You can't advocate privacy and provide privacy

It's also a common strategy for someone in an organization to make a big vertical leap or move across the organization in a way that would be nearly impossible internally. Basically, an infrastructure engineer leaves and comes back as a VP
