The Atlantic's James Fallows ran a piece last year about how the Great Firewall works. Long read, but quite interesting. http://www.theatlantic.com/doc/200803/chinese-firewall

With the low number of apps, the good news is that good Palm Pre apps get noticed a lot more easily. There are opportunities to be the big fish in a smaller pond.

One thing I noticed about France vs. the US is that in the cafe culture in France means it's fine to "stare" at passersby as you sit, slowly sipping your espresso. (Often, all the chairs face the street -- such as in this photo http://www.

Shame on Tiger Woods for violating the trust of his marriage. Not sure how all this is relevant to technology news, except to note that the law firm mentioned in that article that is said to have negotiated the agreement refers to their fax

I think there's a lot more progress to be made in the e-commerce checkout process in general. It takes far too much time and effort to buy things online, turning away impulse buyers.

Thanks for your thoughts. FYI, Open Angel Forum is a new group; I am applying to present at their first meeting. (They haven't invested in a competitor -- it's that the CEO of a competitor is also an angel and is one of the guys said to be

I just met with a partner from First Round today during their "Office Hours" in L.A. What a cool VC firm.

True for modern music as you say, but for people like me, who like classical music, MySpace has little pull if it doesn't want to play the game of competing with FB as a general-interest social networking site. And, as the FT noted earlier,

What got me was another FT article (linked to from this one) noting that MySpace/News Corp is wasting $1-2mil per MONTH for unused office space: http://bit.ly/5wfL2V (They committed to the lease before deciding not to move there. Now they

Wonder how things will work out for him in Intuit's bureaucratic culture -- kinda surprised how much he publicly belittled their bureaucracy (as deserved as the criticism was).

yes, I think Mobile payments will be huge in the US, if carriers can come to their senses and allow it to happen. I wonder if RFID integration with mobile phones will also gain traction at all, like Mobile FeliCa in Japan: http://en.wikipe

I love my Palm Pre, but I agree, the calendar load time is really absurd. One of the things I loved about my old Palm Treo was being able to be out and about and quickly add an event to it when I came across an interesting flyer or article

As cofounder of an angel backed startup in L.A., I think it's a great scene. The going line is that startup people in L.A. are pretty focused on monetization. Other good sources of events here are Dealmaker Media ( http://dealmakermedia.com

I love Andrew's interviews and it's nice to hear more about his story. I love the J Crew story. I've returned Christmas gifts (electronics) to fund my startup, but I may have to look through the closet now, too... LOL
