Facebook _doesn't_ run PHP. A large portion of it is coded in PHP, but it runs C++ through HipHop[1]. Facebook may as well be written in anything that compiles down to C++. 1: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HipHop_for_PHP

I would completely understand if this _was_ a server side shopping cart, but it's not. It's a client side shopping cart which you can use on any architecture - you just have to give it data, and then check the data at payment using whatever

It's a client side cart, not server side - why does it need to be a node package? (genuine question)

It's been a while since Microsoft have changed the interface for finding and running applications (I think the last major change would have been from Windows 3.1 to Windows 95 and the introduction of the start menu), but I'd be surprised if

You're right that there should be some sort of affordance to access programs. What I meant was that the problem isn't that there's no `start` menu - it's that there's no consistent, intuitive, and quick way to access any program (along with

Am I the only person who thinks the lack of a start button and a 'traditional desktop' are non issues? The lack of a start button/desktop is not a usability issue in and of itself - it's everything else that makes it such a nightmare.

For me, having learnt to program in multiple different languages means I've learnt that being a programmer is more than syntax and given I've programmed from C++ to Ruby to Node.js that I've usually got (some) insight into the best language

I think you completely misunderstand the audience for Rachet. It's a HTML/JS/CSS prototyping tool, so if you're building a web application for iPhone it makes it so much easier to get a basic prototype together and start hallway testing. In

More shipment based speculation with little regard to actual sales. For me, the biggest difference between Mac vs PC, and iOS vs Android is that Mac and PC are mostly comparable. iOS and some Android phone/tablets are comparable but a large

Ironically, if you posted the same question on stackoverflow you'd probably be directed (or have it moved) to programmers.stackexchange. Frustratingly, I can't find anything in the FAQ which would indicate why the thread (and countless othe

While I'm not confident that being this tightly coupled to MongoDB is a great (or even a good) idea, I'm really glad to see Meteor get closer to 1.0 especially seeing as it's not another Rails clone. The other concern I have is how testable

I think there's a difference between languages designed to compile down to JS (e.g. CoffeeScript) and wanting to convert a completely different language (e.g. Ruby or C#) into JS. JavaScript has a lot of good and bad parts, and given we don

I can't help but feel this is an attempt to calm people from switching to mapbox ( http://mapbox.com/ ) and OSM. The price is now on par but unless they improve their JavaScript API I can't find a compelling reason to go back to Google Maps
