Correct me if I'm wrong, but you start out criticising the cautious language of uncertainty, and then criticise others for making specific predictions that turn out to be wrong? I'm perfectly happy with that cautious sentence, as

A couple of months ago I put together some lists[1] of movie availability on Netflix, Amazon Prime and Hulu plus, based on the IMDB top 250, 2010 Oscar nominees, Sight & Sound 2012 top 250 poll, and the 250 biggest box office money make

Don't all the other keyboards he suggests as alternatives have most of the same [perceived] problems as the Code keyboard? They all seem to have similarly positioned left Alt keys, wide spacebars and traditional (not ergonomic) layouts

He also wrote the script for that movie with Ben Affleck, which means that at least one of them must be familiar with these issues. (Also, the original script focussed a lot more on the FBI's attempted recruitment of Damon's chara

Well, the critic in me wants to point out that it won't work very well on time trial bikes, and some people prefer to have their bike computer sitting slightly ahead of the handlebars, like how SRMs are mounted. Still, it should work v

In defence of this comment, apparently the book describes the drugging and raping of two ten year olds from the record shop, which is changed in the film to be a consensual encounter with girls his own age. There are other rape scenes in th

Yes, there's a chart that shows power and height vs. time, and it certainly looks like that was the case. I bet it didn't feel like coasting though :-)

That's very impressive. To put that into perspective, that's a chart[1] that some exercise scientists have put together that shows what power cyclists of varying levels tend to be able to produce. The data in the spreadsheet gives

Some people don't like the style of dance in the video (especially on the YouTube video, but I suppose the lesson to be learnt here is to never read YouTube comments), but complaining about that is completely missing the point. The app

Slightly tangential, but I'm pretty sure eugenicists were never thought of in the same way as communists et al. In the US, eugenics was an important idea in the Progressive Era of the late nineteenth/early twentieth century, and w

I'd take you up on that bet — the blur filter is always going to be computationally expensive given that has to do Gaussian blur according to the spec. There are faster ways to blur, but they're not as "good".

As much as my life would have been easier this year without the decision to close Google Reader (I think this is what they call #firstworldproblems), it's a good thing that they didn't change their mind and decide to not shut it d

Here's one more to add to the list: http://www.altfeedreader.com/ I made it, but it provides a simpler and prettier interface to a NewsBlur account (and it's open source: https://github.com/davidjo

The funny thing about Hacker News (and most other places) is that if you explain everything you end up writing a tome that nobody ends up reading. That is to say, I completely agree with you. Google Reader had an excellent backend (being us

Yes, we agree — the graphical interface is just part of the interface that is presented to the user. It's a shame UI often means GUI.

The funny thing about feed readers is that we actually only care about the UI, not the underlying feed fetching and parsing and whatever else happens on the server. So, when I made my feed reader — this has got to be the most popular pastim

The only broken-ness I can remember seeing for a long time in Firefox is in those demos and other little projects that pop up here where the developer forgot that browsers other than Chrome exist (or, are using Chrome only features).

For my purposes, it works well with the list hidden, since I vary rarely use it. However, in developing this, I have found that having to open and close it as much as is currently required if you do use it (unless your monitor is very wide)

Unfortunately not. I completely understand your reluctance at entering your password, although I can assure you that I'm neither looking at nor saving passwords (and the same goes for emails/usernames, for that matter).
