After writing lambdas for node, python, go and java/kotlin, my advice is use a deterministic, compile-time or generated DI (in Java world, something like Dagger) or simply write the setup script that wires the components together. If y

Before you go down this rabbit hole I'd recommend quickly doing a POC microbenchmark, with a sample payload, against formats with schema to get an idea of why this isn't more popular: - JSON (without schema) vs Protobuf (with sche

Yeah, but if you follow the advice FTA, you now have to rely on a usable python version and make. Still fairly common, but what if I use node instead? I think the point is -- the more usability you add the more you potentially dilute how ub

Does this even fully fix the problem? It looks like utf8mb4 is limited to 4 byte sequences, but as far as I understand, utf-8 is variable width. Can utf8mb4 even encode the scottish flag https://www.iemoji.com/view/emoj

My reading of the poster's comment was that you don't literally lose your right to vote but may *effectively* lose your right to vote simply through bureaucratic requirements. In the US, you can still vote as a homeless person, ho

I'm not arguing that what he said was correct nor saying that I don't know which is which. I think it's weird that we're nitpicking something that was pretty obviously miscommunicated rather than the content.

I wouldn't say it's weird -- it seems like you understood what he was saying and he misspoke. Clearly he was trying to indicate that he believed that something negative was increasing. While I agree this isn't what a negative

I think if you get to this point with lambda you're probably overthinking it. I think language runtime choice is important because some choices do have a cost, but likewise, choosing lambda is a tradeoff -- you don't have to manag

Nor does it actually work. If you have a synthetic "runWarm" event, you'll trigger one concurrent lambda to stay warm. This helps if your cold start time is long and your average invoke time is short but you're just levy

You can shave even more coldstart time off the golang version by building with `go build -tags lambda.norpc` and deploying it as a custom runtime.

What do you do if you want to change email provider or your email provider decides to stop their email service. I think a lot of people have been spoiled by gmail's longevity. Unless you're using your own domain it's a wash a

I mostly meant to sidecar the shell and treat it as a debugging utility. While I get the point of ash being smaller as a point for busybox, if size stops being a concern because the shell is in an inactive-sidecar, then you can use a shell

If you're going for size, why not just sidecar all of the "standard posix-compliant tools" but ones that you would want normally. For example, bash instead of ash/dash. You don't need those tools all the time right?
