They don't consider alternatives, because the algorithm is optimized for view counts. Sensationalism has always brought more views than "good" content. Youtube would need to forgo a lot of ad revenue to change the algorithm.

I would argue that it's a unicode problem. `U+0308` shouldn't exist in the first place as a unicode character. That's why we have `U+00EB` ('LATIN SMALL LETTER E WITH DIAERESIS'), etc.
